Love 'em or leave 'em, these beauty trends dominated in 2011. Only time will tell which of these will be strong enough to come back in 2012. Which ones did you try out last year?
The Fishtail Braid
The French braid had some competition this year with the fishtail braid. This fishy braid was seen everywhere, from runways to red carpets to campuses across the country. Once this trend hit, tutorials flooded the internet to teach us all how to weave this seemingly complicated braid.
Pastel Streaks
Made famous by celebs such as Lauren Conrad and Katy Perry, these highlights were not crazy bright, appealing to girls who wanted to try something new but not too drastic. Colors such as pastel pink, light purple, sea foam green and light turquoise were seen in tresses all over the world this year.
Nail Art
Nails were definitely in the spotlight this year with the rising popularity of nail art. Runway shows started to display works of art not only on the clothes, but on the models' nails as well. Crackle polish, glitter, and matte topcoats were wildly popular this year, making the manicure fun again.
Bold Bun
In 2011, the bigger the bun, the better! This classy hairstyle was a throwback to ballet class and was seen on runways and red carpets alike. Women all over loved this look because it's very elegant, easy to do, and shows off your face. This look is also super versatile and can be worn on a night out or to class, adding to its popularity.
The Nude Nail
When nails weren't decorated with nail art, chances are they were nude. Shades of beige, tan, light pink, and soft gray were very popular because they offered a clean look that didn't show chips and could be worn with everything. This trend exploded because it could be worn on all different skin tones.

This winter is getting colder and colder by the day. The bitter weather may begin to put a damper on your days and may lead you to never want to leave the house. If this is your situation, here are some fun ideas to get rid of the winter blues and get into the spirit of spring.

Ice-skating: Ice-skating is a lot of fun and very popular during the winter months. It is relatively cheap and is available at the university ice rink, as well as other rinks in the area. Most rinks have hot cocoa and other warm drinks for a relaxing break from the ice. Plus, it is great exercise!
The gym: As the year is just beginning, many people make resolutions to work out and take better care of themselves. The university gym is free of charge for students. While it may be busy, other gyms in the area are relatively cheap for a monthly charge. Working out makes you feel rejuvenated when you're stressed and anxious during the semester.
Overnight trip: Delaware is right in the middle of so many cities - Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia. Plan a weekend getaway to have something to look forward to. An occasional change of scenery is needed and there are always things to do. Check out the Baltimore Aquarium, shop your way down 5th Avenue, or visit some of the historic sites in Philly, all great ways to spend a weekend with friends.
With numerous activity ideas and getaway suggestions, and tons of fun to be had, the weather will no longer be on your list of worries this winter! |

My mother always tells me to have staple ingredients in my house that I can put together at any time, just to be safe. Here is my favorite recipe to make at a moments notice.
Bow Tie Pasta Chicken Salad You'll need: 1 box of bow tie pasta 1 jar of Parmesan dressing 4 Chicken breast cooked and cubed 1 cup of shredded Parmesan cheese
To Prepare: Boil noodles while cooking the chicken. Place chicken into a large bowl. (You can add other ingredients such as tomatoes and peppers). Drain the pasta and add to the chicken. After the pasta cools, add the dressing and enjoy! |

Out with the bad and in with the good. It's that time of year when everyone is shedding their old habits and trading them for New Year's resolutions. Whatever your goal may be this year-to spend more time with your family, lose weight, or be more positive-try to remember three tricks to ensure your success and happiness in 2012.
1. Don't Give Up: Even if you cheat, you don't have to throw away your resolution altogether.
2. Be Forgiving: If you've been working super hard at the gym all January to lose those 10 pounds, treat yourself to a new perfume or a relaxing manicure.
3. Get Support: It's important to share your resolution with your friends and family. You don't need to share the same resolution to both give and get support.
New Year's resolutions should be about incorporating new habits into your lifestyle and/or preventing old ones from creeping in. So think of it as a long marathon, not a sprint to the finish line! |

As hardworking college students, it is often hard to keep our makeup looking perfect all day long. How do the celebrities do it? Well, here are some secrets to keeping your makeup looking amazing all day and that won't add much extra time to your daily makeup routine.
Face and Eye shadow Primer:
This is the number one item that most people don't know about. Primer is used before putting on any makeup and is key to a long-lasting look. Eye shadow primer is also great because just a dab will make eye shadow pop and look brighter than ever. By taking just a few seconds to apply primer, your makeup will remain bright through a long, hard day of classes and work.
False Lashes:

Don't be scared, ladies. False lashes come in many different sizes, so you don't have to wear crazy, long ones. Wearing false lashes can accentuate beautiful eyes and make them pop. They are easy to use too! First, dab the glue (which usually comes with the lashes) on the lashes themselves. Then put the lashes as close to your lash line as possible and leave time for them to dry. False lashes can be very tasteful so if your eyes are your best feature be sure to give them a try!
Eye shadow in Inner Corners of the Eyes:

Applying eye shadow to the inner corner of the eyes really brightens a look. A simple gold or silver (depending on your eye color) on the inside of the eyes will draw attention to them and make you stand out. This is a secret used by celebrity makeup artists to widen the eyes and make them beautiful in the light. |

In 2004, Glamour magazine started a cooking craze amongst women all over the country when Lindsey Unterberger, one of the magazine's editors, shared her "Engagement Chicken" recipe online. Shortly after the recipe went live, Glamour was flooded with responses from women who had tried the recipe and ended up with their wish answered: a ring on their finger. Here are some UDress-approved recipes aimed at bribing, thanking and pleasing the important people in your life.
Make Him Yours Monkey Bread
Whoever said food is the way to the heart sure had the right idea. This monkey bread recipe is guaranteed to make any guy swoon.
1/2-cup granulated sugar 1 t. cinnamon 2 cans (16.3 oz each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits 1/2-cup chopped walnuts (optional) 1/2-cup raisins (optional) 1-cup firmly packed brown sugar ¾-cup butter, melted
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube pan with cooking spray. In a large Ziploc, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Separate the dough into 16 biscuits, then cut each into quarters. Place pieces in the bag and shake to coat with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Arrange in pan, adding walnuts and/or raisins among the biscuit pieces. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and butter, and then pour over biscuit pieces. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate and pull apart to serve. Serve warm. Missing Mom Mac & Cheese No matter how busy you are, there are always times when you find yourself wishing that you could be sitting at home eating a hot meal cooked by your mom. While this dish may not be as medal-worthy as your mom's cooking, it's sure to wash away your homesickness.
1/2 stick of butter 4 T. flour 2-cups heavy cream 1-cup milk 1 T. poupon mustard 1 lb. sharp cheddar, grated 1 lb. elbow macaroni Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook macaroni according to directions on box. While macaroni is cooking, melt butter in large saucepan. Be careful not to let butter brown. Whisk in flour and mustard. Add milk, and stir constantly over medium heat until mixture thickens and almost comes to a boil. Add heavy cream and stir over medium heat until mixture is hot, but not boiling. Add grated cheese, and stir until cheese is melted. Drain macaroni and put back into pot. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni and mix gently. Pour macaroni and cheese into 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes until bubbly, and then place under broiler for 2-3 minutes until top is lightly browned. Morning After Breakfast Strata When you wake up nauseous with a pounding headache and you're too miserable to trek to NDB, this breakfast strata is sure to put those morning cravings to rest. Bonus: You can prep this the night before and keep it in the refrigerator, so all you have to do is pop it in the oven when you're ready! 1 lb bulk sausage (part sweet, part hot) 7 large eggs 2-cups milk 1 t. poupon mustard 6-8 slices (depending on size and thickness of bread) white bread, cubed 1-cup grated sharp white cheddar cheese Diced green/red pepper & chopped onion (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook sausage; drain well; pat between paper towels; crumble. Beat together eggs, milk and mustard. Grease 9 x 13 pan. Layer bread cubes and sausage (and peppers/onion). Pour egg mixture over and cover with grated cheese. Bake, covered loosely with foil, for 30-40 minutes, then uncover and bake for 15-20 minutes more. Total time is about 50-60 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving
Game Day Blue Cheese Burgers There's nothing better than a tailgate full of great food to start a football game off right, but hot dogs and hamburgers are so passé. 2 oz. cream cheese
2 oz. crumbled blue cheese
1/8 t. onion powder
1 T. chopped fresh parsley
1 lb ground beef Salt and pepper
Coarsely ground black pepper (optional)
In a small bowl, mix together cream cheese and blue cheese. Next, stir in the onion powder and parsley, adding salt and pepper as desired. Divide ground beef into 8 equal pieces. Roll into balls and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Flatten each ball to form thin patties of equal size. Place a tablespoonful of cream cheese mixture into the middle of each patty, and spread evenly. Place the remaining patties on top to form four filled burgers. Gently press the edges of each burger together to form a seal. Sprinkle burgers with coarsely ground black pepper. Cook burgers as desired. Let sit ten minutes before eating. |

Do not be scared off by the "D" word! The Dorm Room Diet does not endorse restrictive dieting in any way. Rather, it is a diet-savvy guide for the ultra busy college female who seeks valuable and accessible information about healthful eating.
Daphne offers advice on how to balance eating well with all of the schedule demands and unhealthy temptations that exist on every college campus. She emphasizes that the key to being a healthy person is eating nutritiously without depriving yourself of the foods you love from time to time. In the words of the fabulous author herself, "The best way to do this without feeling deprived is to remember that everything is about balance and nothing is off limits. If you overindulge today, eat healthfully tomorrow and the next day".
I read this book from cover to cover, and aside from losing a few pounds, I feel more confident and conscious about what I eat and in what quantity.
The Dorm Room Diet offers priceless advice for a mere $16.95. And trust me, it is well worth it.

There are a few tricks to wearing red lipstick - and yes, anyone can pull it off! Crimson lips are a hot trend, so here are a few ways to make sure you get it right.

1. Hair color has a lot to do with the shade you choose. Darker haired people can get away with deeper hues, while blondes look amazing with bright red.
2. Try putting on a lipliner first to make sure you color only inside your lips. This will also prevent the color from fading.
3. Be sure that your lipcolor shares the same vibe as your outfit! The classic look of black and other neutrals work best with red lipstick. This will also help to keep the focus on one part of your look.
So dive in UDressers! Red lips are a growing trend, brightening anyone's look from depressing and dark to fabulous!

For those days when you want to add a little interest to your tresses, try making this cute and easy headband out of your own hair. All you need is about two minutes, some braiding skills, one hair elastic and a couple bobby pins.
Step One: Take a two-inch section of hair from above your ear.
Step Two: Separate this section into three sections and start braiding your hair going towards your face. Tie off the braid with a hair elastic after you have braided the entire length of the piece.
Step Three: Repeat on the other side of your head, taking a two-inch section of hair from above your ear and braiding towards your face.
Step Four: Take the braid across the top of your head and bobby pin the braid right above your ear then repeat with the second braid.
Step Five: Cover the bobby pinned areas with your surrounding hair and enjoy your beautiful braided headband!

It's that time of year again. Fall is in full swing, and at the perfect combination of sweet and salty, these little pretzel treats are affordable and do not require a large amount of work in the kitchen. Great for any occasion, these sweets are both simple ad delicious, making them truly irresistible. Awful I know, but why not indulge a little? And I do mean a little!
Ingredients:
· Square shaped pretzel sticks
· Hershey kisses
· M&Ms
Directions:
· Preheat oven to 350 degrees
· Place pretzels on a cookie sheet
· Drop one Hershey kiss in the center of every pretzel stick
· Pop cookie sheet in the oven, but only for about a minute, so that they soften slightly.
· Take them out of the oven and gently press one M&M on top of each slightly melted Hershey kiss
· Put them in the freezer for a few minutes to get cold enough to eat and enjoy!
You can use any type of Hershey Kisses you would like (white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, etc.) And if you really want to get the holiday theme going, try to pick M&M colors that match the theme of your holiday. For example: Orange & brown M&Ms for Halloween or Green & Red M&Ms for Christmas. Happy Munching!
