In 2004, Glamour magazine started a cooking craze amongst women all over the country when Lindsey Unterberger, one of the magazine's editors, shared her "Engagement Chicken" recipe online. Shortly after the recipe went live, Glamour was flooded with responses from women who had tried the recipe and ended up with their wish answered: a ring on their finger. Here are some UDress-approved recipes aimed at bribing, thanking and pleasing the important people in your life. Make Him Yours Monkey Bread Whoever said food is the way to the heart sure had the right idea. This monkey bread recipe is guaranteed to make any guy swoon. 1/2-cup granulated sugar 1 t. cinnamon 2 cans (16.3 oz each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits 1/2-cup chopped walnuts (optional) 1/2-cup raisins (optional) 1-cup firmly packed brown sugar ¾-cup butter, melted Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube pan with cooking spray. In a large Ziploc, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Separate the dough into 16 biscuits, then cut each into quarters. Place pieces in the bag and shake to coat with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Arrange in pan, adding walnuts and/or raisins among the biscuit pieces. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and butter, and then pour over biscuit pieces. Bake for 28 to 32 minutes, or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate and pull apart to serve. Serve warm. Missing Mom Mac & Cheese No matter how busy you are, there are always times when you find yourself wishing that you could be sitting at home eating a hot meal cooked by your mom. While this dish may not be as medal-worthy as your mom's cooking, it's sure to wash away your homesickness. 1/2 stick of butter 4 T. flour 2-cups heavy cream 1-cup milk 1 T. poupon mustard 1 lb. sharp cheddar, grated 1 lb. elbow macaroni Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook macaroni according to directions on box. While macaroni is cooking, melt butter in large saucepan. Be careful not to let butter brown. Whisk in flour and mustard. Add milk, and stir constantly over medium heat until mixture thickens and almost comes to a boil. Add heavy cream and stir over medium heat until mixture is hot, but not boiling. Add grated cheese, and stir until cheese is melted. Drain macaroni and put back into pot. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni and mix gently. Pour macaroni and cheese into 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake for 30 minutes until bubbly, and then place under broiler for 2-3 minutes until top is lightly browned. Morning After Breakfast Strata When you wake up nauseous with a pounding headache and you're too miserable to trek to NDB, this breakfast strata is sure to put those morning cravings to rest. Bonus: You can prep this the night before and keep it in the refrigerator, so all you have to do is pop it in the oven when you're ready! 1 lb bulk sausage (part sweet, part hot) 7 large eggs 2-cups milk 1 t. poupon mustard 6-8 slices (depending on size and thickness of bread) white bread, cubed 1-cup grated sharp white cheddar cheese Diced green/red pepper & chopped onion (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook sausage; drain well; pat between paper towels; crumble. Beat together eggs, milk and mustard. Grease 9 x 13 pan. Layer bread cubes and sausage (and peppers/onion). Pour egg mixture over and cover with grated cheese. Bake, covered loosely with foil, for 30-40 minutes, then uncover and bake for 15-20 minutes more. Total time is about 50-60 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving Game Day Blue Cheese Burgers There's nothing better than a tailgate full of great food to start a football game off right, but hot dogs and hamburgers are so passé. 2 oz. cream cheese 2 oz. crumbled blue cheese 1/8 t. onion powder 1 T. chopped fresh parsley 1 lb ground beef Salt and pepper Coarsely ground black pepper (optional) In a small bowl, mix together cream cheese and blue cheese. Next, stir in the onion powder and parsley, adding salt and pepper as desired. Divide ground beef into 8 equal pieces. Roll into balls and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Flatten each ball to form thin patties of equal size. Place a tablespoonful of cream cheese mixture into the middle of each patty, and spread evenly. Place the remaining patties on top to form four filled burgers. Gently press the edges of each burger together to form a seal. Sprinkle burgers with coarsely ground black pepper. Cook burgers as desired. Let sit ten minutes before eating.
