One of our five model cover finalists, Mara (pictured above with editor in chief, Jessica Lapidos and model consultant, Julia Sczniecka) was put to the test yesterday during a Fantasy/Future themed photoshoot for UDress Spring 2010.  Mara was given the full model treatment, even getting an impromptu manicure so that her nails were just as fierce as her poses.

Keep checking back for more updates on the magazine and our five potential cover models!

Willard Hall was bursting with beauties last night at UDress's model training session. Models who will be featured in the upcoming issue, including some of our cover model contestants, were in attendance to learn the ins and outs of modeling from our Model Consultant, Julia Sczaniecka.

The evening started out with the models-in-training giving a brief introduction and declaring, I am a model. After everyone got a bit more familiar with each other, Julia was ready to whip these models into shape.

Julia began by sharing some of her early modeling stories and explaining the difference between commercial and high fashion modeling. Then, editor-in-chief Jessica Lapidos took over with some breathing and muscle relaxation exercises to get the models loosened up and ready to go.

Lesson 1: Strike a Pose - With Julia's help, a few of the cover model finalists demonstrated how to pose. All the ladies were quickly instructed to put their heels on, and they learned how to work their best angles for the camera. Thomas Barranca, men's style editor, took the guys aside and explained the less exaggerated "guy's pose."

Lesson 2: Runway 101 - Next assignment: work the runway. With music playing and Julia's instruction, models paired up, strutted down the catwalk, and posed. Each model had several turns to hit the runway and perfect their pose and pivot.

alt

Lesson 3: Fierce Faces - The models' last exercise was to practice certain techniques for capturing a confident facial expression, including the "I'm better than you" look and the "I've got a dirty secret" look. Then, they were instructed to make faces while making noises, like "ooh" and "ahh.

After two hours and countless Lady Gaga songs, the models finished their training session.
And as for our potential cover models, the competition isn't over yet.  Each model will get to be in her own shoot in the upcoming issue.  Judges, model coordinator Alisha Pilipshen, men's style director Thomas Barranca, and model consultant Julia Sczaniecka will use these images in determining a fabulous cover model winner!

So who has what it takes? Keep checking UDressmag.com to find out!

The snow may have been coming down outside, but Trabant was smokin’ hot as University of Delaware’s cream of the crop came out to UDress’s first ever cover model search. Yes, that’s right, we gave the whole student population the chance to be the next face of UDress Magazine. And now, we’re giving you a behind the scenes look at how it went down.

Inside the multi-purpose room, our panel of judges awaited the fresh new talent. Featuring men’s style editor Thomas Barranca, former cover model and modeling instructor, Julia Sczaniecka, and model doordinator, Alisha Pilipshen, the judges will be picking their top five choices from the flock of models they have seen today. But what is it that the judges are looking for?

“Confidence, definitely,” said Julia.

“Modeling is all about what they’re thinking on the inside,” Tom added. “If they’re thinking ‘God, I am so gorgeous,’ it shows on their face.”

About halfway through the search, Mizan Kidanie, a cover model hopeful and passionate follower of the magazine, sits anxiously outside the multi-purpose room doors.

“A lot of people would read the magazine and think ‘I wonder how they were able to model for this,’” she said. “I think UD needs a magazine like this, something that’s artistic that represents the students.”

Our conversation is cut short, as it is Mizan’s turn to face the judges. Inside the multi-purpose rooms Mizan is asked to strut her stuff as a song is playing. Then, after two photos, Mizan comes out of the room smiling.

“I just love the magazine and really want to be involved.”

But Mizan is just one of almost 50 fine ladies and gentlemen who came to take their shot at being UDress’s next cover model. Who will make it into our top five? The competition continues, and we will be keeping you posted each step of the way!

Assistant PR Director Emily Barbeau and PR team member, Chelsea Hollowell help potential models fill out paperwork.  The PR team and members of the style team scouted models in and around Trabant.

Thanks to Trilogy Salon (trilogysalon.com), our model's hair and makeup was spot on.  Bright lips and dark liner on the girls, with big updos, topped off with a colored strand of hair made our gals turn heads.  While our guys were cleaned up, even getting completely new hair dos!

To pull of our Fall Fashion Event, it took a lot of hands.  Colleen Waters our Fashion Event Chair and Kaylee Weight our Asst Fashion Event Chair worked incredibly hard to turn out a fantastic evening.  From decorations, to giftbags and the runway show, no detail was looked over.  UDressers from every section of the magazine helped to stuff bag and fold programs.
