Three summers ago, while passing through Union Square, my four best friends and I became distracted. The Source: The docile strains of a guitar, and a voice that rivaled that of John Mayer.

We followed the sound, and at its origin we discovered then-18-year-old Georgia-based musician, Connor Pledger. We spent hours listening to Connor perform both covers and originals for the growing crowd in Union Square Park.

On June 2nd, 2011, my friends and I again had the pleasure of seeing Connor perform. This time, however, it was within the confines of Lit Lounge, a club in NYC's East Village. Connor played only original singles, all of which are on his album, Detours, which was released four months ago on iTunes and was produced, mixed and mastered by Danny Infield. Just as we remembered, the now-21-year-old was only accompanied by his guitar and his incredible voice.

Connor was born in Arizona, but now lives in Athens, Georgia where he attends the University of Georgia and majors in Music Education. I had the opportunity to talk to Connor about his introduction to music, his accomplishments, his inspiration and his goals.

UDress: When/how did you get involved with music?

Connor: I started singing in choir when I was in the elementary school, and fell in love.

UDress: What instruments do you play?

Connor: My main instrument is my voice, but I play guitar as well. I also mess around on a few other instruments at times.

UDress: How did you find your singing voice?

Connor: It grew over the years, as I tried to imitate people singing on the radio.

UDress: How would you describe your sound?

Connor: I describe my sound as "Acousti-Funk and Folk"

UDress: Do you write all of your own songs?

Connor: Absolutely, I love the idea, and feeling of pure inspiration.

UDress: From where do you get your song-writing inspiration?

Connor: The inspirations vary. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, and ray Lamontagne are all great inspirations. My favorite band is Led Zeppelin, and I love Robert Plant's voice. I don't think I sound anything like him, but the passion he puts into his vocals definitely has inspired me over the years.

UDress: What's your favorite of your own songs? Why?

Connor: I would say my favorite song is "Help Me." I feel there is a lot of energy in the song and I love it when the audience gets into it. When the audience is having fun, I'm having fun.

UDress: Where have your performed and which performance was the most gratifying?

Connor: I have performed in Paris, New York City, London, but I must say the most gratifying show was when I played in Vietnam. It was a very exciting show. I was very pleased with the reaction from the crowd as I did not know how they would react.

UDress: What has been your most rewarding moment as a musician?

Connor: My most rewarding moments have been; the day I finally got to hold my first CD in my hand. Must be how it feels to hold your first child. And also, when the person I wrote a song for, gets to hear their song.

UDress: What are your long-term goals?

Connor: My long term goals are happiness, and family. But, until then, I will be playing music around the world.

UDress: What is your favorite song of all time?

Connor: "Going to California" by Led Zeppelin

UDress: If you could meet any musician, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you ask him/her?

Connor: Mozart and I'd say: "Would you like to hear a song?"

UDress: How would you describe your style of dress?

Connor: On a usual day; I wear a button down plaid shirt, tight fit jeans, and a pair Rockport saddle Oxfords. Just a southern boy I suppose.
